RESUMO: O presente estudo teve como propósito averiguar se os indivíduos
frequentadores de uma universidade sénior possuíam conhecimentos
relativamente à utilização de recursos geológicos na produção de produtos
usados no seu dia-a-dia. Foi realizado um levantamento (survey), aplicando
um questionário validado. A amostra era constituída por 51 indivíduos,
associados de uma universidade sénior, com uma idade média de 71 anos.
A análise dos questionários, baseada na estatística descritiva e no teste
independente do qui-quadrado, possibilitou verificar que os participantes
apresentam alguma literacia no que concerne à temática da geologia no
dia-a-dia. Contudo, era expectável a existência de conhecimentos mais
vastos. A intervenção neste tipo de instituições afigura-se importante para
o desenvolvimento de cidadãos informados e capazes de usar a literacia
científica para seu proveito e para benefício de toda a sociedade.
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to diagnose if individuals attending a senior university have knowledge regarding the use of geological resources in every daily life products. A survey was done resorting to a validated questionnaire. The sample comprised 51 individuals, with a mean age of 71 years. After the data collection, the analysis of the questionnaires, based on descriptive statistics and the independent chi-square test, allowed to verify that the participants have some literacy. However, wider knowledge was expected. The intervention in this type of institutions seems important for the development of informed citizens capable of using scientific literacy for their benefit and for the benefit of the whole society.
