dc.description.abstractABSTRACT: To maximize geological and mineral exploration know-how, the LNEG gathered spectral information of distinct sources and wavelengths in southern Portugal: a) MultiSpectral Instrument (MSI) and b) Total Gamma-ray. In a), MSI from Sentinel 2 mission of the Copernicus European Programme for Earth Observation provides spectral information in the wavelength range 430-2320 nm. The dataset was atmospherically corrected (level 1-C), resampled to 10 m pixel size, and merged data capture on July 2016 and September 2017 over southern Portugal. The images are processed in ENVI software to enhance geological and mineral exploration characteristics, using standard algorithms to extract information based on compression factors, i.e. Minimum Noise Fraction (MNF), Independent Component Analysis (ICA), as well as spectral similarity measures, and spectral indices of clay, ferrous minerals and iron oxides and silica. In b), total gammaray data gathered through decades of multitemporal acquisition with portable SPP2 scintillometers, land and airborne surveys, depicts the radiometric measurements in total count expressed in rate of exposition of U, Th and K in a radiometric map at 1:500 000 scale.pt_PT
