ABSTRACT: The use of biomass for energy has greater relevance within the scope of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP 2030) and the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050. More recently, the new special and extraordinary regime for the installation and exploitation of new biomass centrals (cogeneration) by municipalities, intermunicipal communities or associations of municipalities for specific purposes stands out. Only solutions that ensure energy efficiency through the full use of the thermal energy produced deserve the special remuneration regime for the sale of electricity. Considering these incentives and the good national conditions related to the solar and biomass resources, some solutions related to solar/biomass hybridization will also be mentioned. In this context, this work intends to systematize the role of biomass in the energy transition in Portugal.
