RESUMO: Com base em critérios sismo-estratigráficos foram identificados e mapeados elementos morfológicos ao nível da base da unidade sísmica superficial da plataforma continental do Barlavento Algarvio, atribuída à cobertura sedimentar não consolidada. A localização destes elementos morfológicos, interpretados como paleo-litorais, é compatível com o modelo evolutivo da posição média do nível do mar nos últimos 18.000 anos (Dias, 1987) e permite explicar a sequência estratigráfica da camada sedimentar que caracteriza este sector da margem portuguesa. No sector estudado, estes elementos foram reconhecidos nas seguintes faixas de profundidade: 110 m, 90 m, 70 m e na zona mais proximal até 45 m.
ABSTRACT: Based on seismic-stratigraphy criteria, morphological elements were identified and mapped at the basal reflector of the superficial seismic unit present at the Barlavento Algarvio Continental shelf, which is attributed to the unconsolidated sedimentary cover. The location of these features, interpreted as paleo-littorals, is compatible with the evolutionary model of the position of the mean sea level, for the last 18,000 years (Dias, 1987), and allow explaining the stratigraphic sequence of the sedimentary layer that characterizes this sector of the Portuguese margin. At the study shelf, these morphologic traces were recognized at the following depths ranges: 110 m, 90 m, 70 m and in the shallowest zone up to 45 m.
