ABSTRACT: An important activity developed by the UTE-PLANAGEO consortium (IGME/LNEG/Impulso) in the PLANAGEO Project (2014-2022) was the development of a specific and detailed geological-mining exploration program, termed Cartas de Recursos Minerais Metálicos de Angola (CRMMA), with the objective of defining potential mineral resources exploration areas in SW Angola. Three clusters, comprising 39 different 1:50,000 scale geological sheets, were defined in order to explore different mineral resources: i) Cluster 1: Au-Fe - Cuíma-Samboto, Chipindo, Jamba and M'Popo-Tchamutete regions; ii) Cluster 2: REE - Catanda, Serra da Neve and Tchivira-Bonga regions; iii) Cluster 3: Cr-Ni-(PGE), Cu and Nb-Ta-Be - Giraúl, Humpata and Chibia-Hamutenha regions. The work methodology was based on the in situ geochemical analysis using portable X-ray fluorescence equipment (pXRF) and laboratory chemical analysis of rock, stream sediment and soil samples, in addition to petrographic study of samples from mineralised zones. Finally, detailed gravimetric studies were carried out on several mafic to ultramafic bodies, potentially host to base metals, complementing the data generated by the regional magnetic/radiometric aerogeophysical surveys carried out during the project. The combination of all these techniques (multi-elemental pXRF and laboratory geochemistry together with the geophysical and geological information) from the multidisciplinary factor analysis made it possible to propose areas of potential interest for mineral prospecting.
