ABSTRACT: The residues/effluents from the chestnut industry are a potential for energetic valorisation through anaerobic digestion (AD) process. Solid residues (pulp peels and fractions, “RS”) and sludge resulting from wastewater treatment plant (“LT”), both from the chestnut processing industry, were digested anaerobically under batch and mesophilic conditions of temperature. The RS, with a substrate/inoculum ratio (S/I) of 2,5, provided 162 mL of biogas (46% CH4) and 77% COD removal, while the LT, through a S/I ratio of 0,75, generated 106 mL of biogas (67% CH4) and 85% COD removal. The results show that there is a potential for the energetic valorisation of these types of substrate, having the TL presented results that are comparatively more promising.
