RESUMO: A caracterização mineralógica de amostras do jazigo de Vila Cova, situado no norte de Portugal, foi realizada a partir do estudo petrográfico, metalográfico, de catodoluminescência e de microscopia eletrónica de varrimento com espectroscopia por dispersão de energias. Assim, foram identificados minerais como quartzo, clorite, magnetite, pirite, arsenopirite, calcopirite, galena, tetradimite, rútilo, zircão, albite, anortite, hialofane, apatite e fluorapatite, esta última por vezes com inclusões de minerais contendo elementos de terras raras (xenótimo e monazite). Esta caracterização será crucial na avaliação da qualidade do minério. A presença de minerais com elementos de terras raras tem particular importância, visto que pode aumentar a relevância deste depósito.
ABSTRACT: The mineralogical characterization of samples from the Vila Cova deposit, located in northern Portugal, was carried out through petrographic, metallographic, cathodoluminescence, and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy studies. Thus, minerals such as quartz, chlorite, magnetite, pyrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, tetradymite, rutile, zircon, albite, anorthite, hyalophane, apatite, and fluorapatite were identified, this latter sometimes with inclusions of minerals containing rare earth elements (xenotime and monazite). This characterization is crucial in assessing the ore quality. The presence of minerals with rare earth elements is particularly important as it may increase the significance of this deposit.
